WASTAGE, ISN'T IT?

There was a lot of frenzy about beautification of Delhi for CWG, though most of the related work was delayed beyond games. A couple of months ago sidewalks or pavements in our locality were done up with laying of cement bricks. This is welcome as pedestrians now could walk on that raised path without risk of being sideswiped by speeding car trying to overtake other vehicles by encroaching on their passage.

Last week onwards I again find labourers on the same pathways but this time they were digging up bricks in an area about 5 X 5 feet around trees which were on the paths. There are a number of young trees and saplings.

This made me think could the agency responsible for making footpaths not co-ordinate this with horticulture department right from the beginning? Could such coordinated efforts not have lead to saving financially as well as man hours? Or is it deliberate so pockets of some individuals may be lined twice?

very true!it could have saved time and effort too!
could have finished together with coordination!

That's the main problem - decisions made without proper planning and co ordination. End Result? No real progress! :(

This happens a lot of time in Bangalore uncle Jack. telecoms people would dig the road for months and then patch up the roads. A few days later, sewage and corporation people will redig it for another purpose. I think it is poor planning of the authorities and either ways money making opportunity for the contractors. They anyway pay the authorities huge amount of money in bribe for winning the tender in the first place. In order to make that and a lot more money, they will leave the roads dug open for several months to appear to be doing somee work .

It is poor planning, wastage and operation of corrupt systems too.

Same here. I think each agency or department exists as a separate entity with the rest of the govt bunch. They just do their job caring not a hoot about other considerations with regards to savings, man power, time management, coordination, etc. It's 'I do my job-You do yours' kind of thing. That indeed is a sad state of affairs.

hehhehe...why co-ordinate uncle? we r a corrupt nation anyways!
i agree with Always Happy...sadly for us, now only God can save us

This sort of thing carries on till there are no roads left. Then contracts are invited for making roads. Nice money making game, isn't it? Take care

ELLEN :

This seems to be almost an universal problem. Hope things do improve sometime in near future. Take care

VINNIE :

They may find a way to bribe God too. What with all those huge offerings at some of the religious places! Or they may pit one God against other. Take care

The lack of coordination between agencies irks me to end...and its not difficult. But who cares and there is no accountability.

If one department worked efficiently we could think about cross department synergy.

And you are right, it's not that they can't do it. Questions is 'what's in it for them'?

It is really so irritating that I wonder if we do have someone who can think right. Take care

Jack,

Worry not. The Government is on gutter-cleaning the corruption. I won't be surprised if all the people we blame for this wastage will be in jail chakki-pissing by end of this year..

In a way, this is not a wastage..its more like a slap in the face for the ruling party. And finally something is being done!!
